He works with his students to help identify scholarships that are a good fit for them. So how can you discover scholarships that are right for you? Here are a few steps to get you started:

Meet with your high school counselor. I’m sure you’re busy with classes and other activities, but be sure to schedule one-on-one time with your counselor. Let them know about your academic strengths and weaknesses, any special skills that you have, what extracurricular activities you’re doing, and any volunteer work you’ve done. Also, be sure to let them know if you’re interested in a particular field.

Making sense of student loans

Before filling out loan applications, you’ll want to learn about the different types of student loans. Start out by looking at government loans. These may be subsidized or unsubsidized.
•    Subsidized loans are preferable, since the government pays the interest in the loan while you are in school, and offers some grace periods if you face financial hardship.
•    Unsubsidized loans aren’t based on your financial need. With these loans, you are responsible for paying the interest from day one.
